Grainger Market

The Grainger Market is undergoing a revite. The history goes back to 1835 with 14 aisles of trading. However, it has received a grant of £8.2m to undertake the GR1 listed building. Having delved into the proposals for once they've kept this architectural wonder in perspective! When it opened, there was a grand opening with 2000 people attending and today a picture by local artist. Thomas Miles Richardson hangs in our Laing art gallery. There were 2 pants full of water where live duckks etc awaited their fate. I remember the flower stall of Sarah Gaslkin who I met. People thought she got her flowers from abroad but I kept her secret of the allotments till now! The smells of the market still dominate the market and I only hope it continues for another century. I couldn't imagine newcastle without the market...
