Liz, many years ago if you lived in the country, your “rates “ as it was called then were cheaper as we had no electric lights and and other amenities. Then the Party of envy, were voted into power Socialist Labour and decided some people living in the countryside qwerty better off so all our rates were increased. The next thing the decided was if you had a mortgage you got tax relieve and they didn’t like that either, so they removed it. Remember when peopled went onto the Council house list, you waited your turn and eventually got to the top of the list. They changed all that. Suddenly it was those in most need . In my town, beautiful new houses built, in the last 10/15 years. African families who arrived in the town, all housed, Also top of the list people who can work because of alcohol or drug dependancy. Sadly they keep the local police busy, so I’m told by someone who bought a flat next to them.
