First of all may I thank you all for your encouragement and support. One example of my depth was in 2013 when I asked the priest if I could take some photos of the inside and outside of St. Aloysius Church. He gave me a sheet of history to work from but I luckily spotted a few errors. Apparently someone was paid a fortune to do the history but he drank the money leaving a pack of written lies. I then offered to research and write it. That took me 2 yrs hard work as I even measured the inside, worked out 13tonnes of roof, and where the bricks came from ( all Hebburn made )along with the sandstone pillars. That led to studying shellac manufacture, even to the timber supplier and counting over 10,000 single cuts of stained glass. The builder being Thomas Lumsden who lived in Albert Rd Jarrow. Thankfully, Tony Dirkin of the Diocese off in Newcastle has now logged it along with the church but as you will see, the research takes years but at least it is correct.. |
