My Grandfather built and opened the shop some time after 1901 (H J Abel pork butcher). It was later run by my Uncle Bill Abel. My Dad, ran the 'other' Abel pork butcher shop in Albert Road.
In 1901 both my Grandfather and his friend Walter Angel were journeyman butchers in the shop of Ernest Gotz in Western Road. That shop was later run by Walter, who married my Grandmother's sister. Another sister of my Grandmother married August Hilkert (another pork butcher in Jarrow.)
The family web of pork butcher relatives of German origin in Jarrow, was large and extensive to say the least. All long gone now of course.
