That beautiful old historical Pub, the 'Grey Horse Inn' was demolished quite a few years ago & a Supermarket built in its place,
When I was about 9 in 1953 my family took me and my toddler sister Marian for a weeks holiday on a little caravan site on a farmers field here in Whitburn. I remember walking to the top of the sloping fields and could see Slag Heap on the Jarrow Hebburn border in the distance. Our house in Grasmere Rd was hidden at the other side of that slag heap.These days chilren have holidays abroad, not 5 or 6 miles away
