When my father was a rope boy on the ferries a man jumped on approaching Walker landing, missed and fell in, he could not swim, my father jumped in and saved him. He was awarded a Watch , Medal and Certificate from The Royal Lifesaving Society and the man’s parents bought dad a pair of boots, a lot of money in those days.
