Here is another 'Britain from Above' aerial view that they kindly allow me to post, because I've helped them many times with locations.
In the early 1950s when I was 7 or 8 yrs old the derelict Copperworks & Pelaw Main Collieries Staiths was where me and my Quay area mates wandered along to. We had to pass HUDC Rubbish Tips mountains first though and they are still there today covered with soil & landscaped.
We often saw the many Foreign Colliers from places like Denmark, Poland, and even London loading up with coal there.
