Its great that you're chairing a non political body, I know from experience how hard it is to keep it that way when people can't leave their political affiliations at the door. One of things I put in place at the organisations I have been involved in was a skills audit for all board/committee members as it was a good way to realise the knowledge and skills you possess as a body and will also highlight any skill lacking and can be addressed.
It made us more prepared when engaging with local authorities and official bodies and gave us quite a an advantage as we weren't putting square pegs in round holes.
Keep at it I'm sure the community you represent appreciate your efforts both individually and collectively to making a positive difference to their daily lives .
