When I started work for South Tyneside Council at 16 in the seventies you started in a Pool and got sent to various places for 6 weeks at a time until you ended up with a permanent position, mine was Hebburn Council Offices.
The Planning department was my first and it was in a building in a road to the right of the Town Hall and then I spent 6 weeks in the Library on Ocean Road, I say in the Library it was in the attic filing the cards in those long wooden boxes. My view was the Town Hall clock! Boy oh boy was that boring. I had to put each one in sideways so a woman could check! She did it for 6 weeks and I didn’t get one wrong, I think she was hoping 😁
I only got to see the inside of the Town Hall once
