I agree with the second part of Malcolm's response: "How you treat other people" But that can't be all. Humanists, and members of other religions also recognise the need to treat our fellow humans fairly, but they would not consider themselves to be Christians.
To be a Christian surely must be to believe that Jesus was the Son of God, and all that derives from that belief. Otherwise, you are falling into the mindset of the character quoted below.
"When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less."
