I have just recieved a copy of the CHRONIClLE from my family showing the celebratiions of the black and whites terrific won over Liverpool last Sunday.
I always when receiving local papers look at the orbiturie column l noticed a Margaret Rickerby age ninety died of Hebburn wife of the late Jim Rickerby l emmediatly thought of a Jimmy Rickerby who worked in the Joiners shop in Palmers
Shipyard in the 1950s you and l worked there during those years serving our apprenticeship of l remember the Rickerby family who lived in Hedgely road took you in to there home you being on the board spoke well of the family.
I am thinking could Margaret be Jimmys daughter in law and her husband be his son.? Take care .Bonnie lad.tb

I met the lovely Jim Rickerby & his wife many years ago (20yrs) and he lived in a street that was built on where Hebburn Lakes once were.
Here is one of the photos Jim loaned me & its his class photo from 1937.

Norman the photo of boys at Quay Board school shows one of my older brothers John Barker in the back row our John died in the 1970s. RIP

Tom Barker. The lady that you mentioned probably is related to the Jim Rickerby we new. Jim had a son also named Jim ,Im guesing if he is still with us would be aprox 96 years old. Joan his daughter would be aproximately 95. Joan's married name was Ward she had one son Ian. I visited Joan many years ago she still lived,a widow, at 191 Hedgley Road where her parents used to live. What a beautiful family they will always be in my heart as will Geordie Land. Thank you so much for staying in touch, it's probably to late in life for me to return permanently though it's on my bucket list for a visit as soon as my chemo treatment is finished. Just let me know the date....maybe some of the other Hebburn-ites will join us?

Malcolm., Re South Shields Pier, I often wondered,as the Pier is an obvious attraction, why a pay as you go shutle, golf cart service,never ran the 1 mile length of the pier. For tourists during peak season. Just thinking out loud.

That's a good idea, GBNS. But it would require TWO things:

1) An entreprenure willing to set it up with funding & an operator

2) Council permission?......Good Luck with THAT?

I am up for it Malcolm it would be nice to meet Geordieboy we seem to have something in common going back to those early years serving our time in Hebburn Palmers shipyard in the the 1950s Tending up in Nova Scotia and myself immigrating to
Australia so yes l am only a couple of hours up the A 19 from Yorkshire to Tyne side.

I had prostate cancer some 13 years ago plenty of R/T still here they do great things these days you will be fine. Take care.TB

Tom, unfortunately mine was detected late so the cancer is trying to attack the bones. I finished 10 chemo treatments last August and started another round last week,procedure every three weeks., No cure just slowing the inedible. However so far I'm still out and about almost as normal. My bucket list is good for my mental health as is Norman's Forum. Stay healthy one and all. DONT SWET THE LITTLE STUFF.
