It would be a big mistake for ex-pats like yourself to come back here when you see how we are being invaded by illegal scroungers. You would soon want to return to Oz I reckon.

I did return in 2017 for a small reunion, however, I could already see the changes, I was not impressed with what has been occurring in Hebburn, and in the UK as a whole.....The Illegals have left their S***box Countryie and arrived in the UK for a ""supposedly"" better life and are now trying to turn the UK into something that resembles the S***box countries they abandoned, and they are bringing their millenia long hatreds with them.

Steve, the doing the same to the beautiful Green Ireland of Ireland as the EU decided to call it. Although I do believe the Irish are not hiring hotels for them.

Geordieboy, those that know me know that although I'm not a REAL TRUE BORN ON THE BANKS OF THE TYNE Geordie, ( I was actually born in Driffield, E.R. Yorkshire ) I was raised in Jarrow and Hebburn and Educated at Hebburn Newtown Infants and Juniors and Clegwell.... I would like to think that I'm a Geordie at heart.

Yes.... Dad was 4014427 R.A.F. we lived in 12 AMQ on the Base....it was the first R.A.F. Station to be fitted out with the Bloodhound Missile Defense System.

WOW, we still had the Bloodhound missiles, when I was at RAF Laarbruch, West Germany, in the mid 1970's.

And my brother, Donnie, was stationed at Driffield, probably mid to late 1960's.

I was born in the Quay in 1940 went to the Quay Board school then on to Clegwell from there l served my time in the yards came out of my apprenticeship 1961 then emigrated to Australia came back to the UK late Sixties then moved to
Yorkshire coach building laid off in 1980. (Maggie Thatcher had a lot to do with that)l got a job at RAF STAXTON WOLD RADAR STATION FOR 3 months as l was a member of the civil service l was forced to retire at the age of 60 at that time l had 20 years service s to attain my state pension l hadto work for myself till l reached my retireing age.
At the time l was there l used to flit quite a lot to Alemain barracks in DRIFFIELD on the wold some ten miles from the station to the married quarters also RAF Leconfield 22 squadron.over the years l got to know quite a lot of service and cirvillian personall.l think I of all the job l ever had this one was the best for me.i just wonder if the board members who have mentioned Driffield on this post where they had connections of
Driffield barracks l more than likely might have known there family connections during My time 1980 -2000

Hi Tom. My only knownledge of RAF Driffield, was that my brother Donnie served there in the 1960's

You mentioned 22 Sqn, at Leconfield....what aircraft were they flying?

During my time at RAF STAXTON 202-squadron {e-flight}
Sea king SAR helicopters were based at RAF LECONFIELD

I believe Driffield barracks has been closed for many years and
Like wise Leconfield is now a H/G driving school for the ARMY still a the barracks
