Why were the May elections cancelled?

I think there was going to be Local Elections here on South Tyneside in May, but apparently they were cancelled.
I wonder why?
Was it a crafty move cos they knew theyd get 'Hoyed out'

Norman, we haven’t heard our local elections are cancelled so far, but I believe this government wants all councils to become Unitary Councils. Getting rid of Town and District Councils. It is supposed to save money, but already they are adding to the list of councillors needed. As far as I understand it , council and councillors will be more remote ( it’s difficult to speak to our councillors as it is) and there will be more of them on the gravy train, or “Fill your boots “ as one retiring Labour MP to his replacement.

Farage was up in arms that the LP had cancelled some of the Local Elections, I think the LP know that future elections will not be good news for them, and the CP are a bit worried as well hence no challenge to the cancellations - so much fior democracy !!!

I dont believe that South TYneside Elections were cancelled. They were just not due in 2025
Local government elections take place over a four-year cycle, each councillor is elected for four years. One councillor in every ward is elected each year with no elections in the fourth year.
The last cycle of local government elections were held in May 2022, May 2023 and May 2024.
The list of those actually cancelled is Norfolk
Suffolk
Essex
Thurrock
Surrey
East Sussex
West Sussex
Hampshire
Isle of Wight
It is speculated that this is because of the current governments expectation of a possing at the polling boths. The Gov has sought to fool us with another story!

Northumberland going ahead .Got up this morning two letters for myself and my husband not leaflets in envelopes what a waste.They must be up very early or were put through late last night.
