Inflation increase

No doubt the A*******s in Downing Street will be making excuses today for the increase of 3.5% in this month’s inflation figures.

The ball is in Rachel Reeves court, she is to blame, no doubt the list of excuses, starting with the Tories, will be trotted out today.

Liz, you are so right all the good socialists start with, what the nasty Tories did. I can’t complain because I have to remind people about Tony Blair and his New Labour!

The main cause of the inflation rises are the utilities and council tax increases. Any pension and benefits increases are swallowed up by these increases year upon year.
We have regulators who are useless and governments past and present who allow water increases of up to 26%, and gas and electric companies saying bills need to increase then post record profits. The government need to hold the regulators to account. If they don't do don't the job, and it seems to be case then abolish these organisations and put something in place with real power and targets they have to achieve instead of picking up very decent paychecks for little or no return.

I can only repeat what I said in a letter to this site a few days ago this -----The claim is made that the people of Britain made a decision about our ties with 'Europe' and that should stand. A great swathe of the British public were misled by slogans on the side of a bus and archetypal gentlemen with posh accents claiming that Nirvana was just round the corner if only we would vote leave.
Then as soon as the deed was done did we hear anymore much about the poor fishermen? The big firms registered their fleets in France and and elsewhere in Europe and carried on as before with their quotas.
I'm afraid that the great British Public is easily misled and I have evidence of this in my own lifetime when we were told that buying shares in assets we already owned would give us great benefits and the competition would make prices come down. Like your good selves I'm paying only pennies now (to many foreign companies}for my gas, electricity, water, sewage, rail travel, postage, telephone. What a mess our generation has left for our grandchildren. Don't blame Starmer -look in the mirror.

Posh accents? I have lived with “posh accents “for 55 years and my daughters have what you call, “Posh Accents”. They are just people who live in different areas of the country.

As an educated, economically and financially informed "Geordie bloke" originally from Jarrow I am not prepared to accept that I have been mislead by slogans!
When I look in the proverbial mirror I see a person who voted for Brexit. I see a person who believes that a result is a result. In our system the majority voted for "out" not re-runs! (Otherwise I would be demanding that the NUFC v Arsenal game at the weekend should be replayed until Newcastle win

)
When I look in the mirror I see a bloke who did not vote for the status quo in the recent local elections and was chuffed to bits when both Labour and Tory were given the hiding they deserved.
Labour lost for its current levels of dishonesty and duplicity at National level and the Tories for incompetence.
I am sorry if it upsets you but I do blame Starmer because I am advised that he is currently in charge (although the evidence is scant). He was an inept DPP and he has surpassed his levels of ineptitude in his present role and is supported by at best hopeful and definitely hopeless people at Cabinet level.

The rise in Council Tax is directly controlled by local authorities of which many (but admittedly not all) were controlled by a party which was destroyed in recent local elections.
The rise in utility bills is down to Moribund and his policies and our reliance upon foreign sources.
I cannot say that I was proud of the Tory record but the current government displays ineptitude and dishonesty at a worrying level.
We are as you say Brian in the hands of useless regulators but it is in the Government's hand to review quangos and their terms of reference. I hear words but no action.

Our Council Tax rose by more than inflation, have we received any change in services, no we have not it is just the same, I would like to bet that the Pension contributions for the council workers etc have increased though.

You are correct Mac about the rise in utilities bills all down to the fool Miliband. I to was not proud of the Tory record on many things 5hey only have themselves to blame for the Election wipe out, 4 more years of this current government will be a complete nightmare.

Allen Watson, I voted Brexit I was not deceived by ‘headlines’ on busses etc, I have no regrets about my vote I never voted to enter the EU I never changed my mind over the years, David Cameron has only one legacy and that is he allowed us to have a vote on whether to leave or stay in the EU, we voted to leave I just wish preople would accept that democratic vote and let us get in with our lives outside of the EU and stop trying to renewer via the back door with the most costly of Agreements.
