Geordieboy NS

GeordieboyNS (Donald Stanley) got to know about our 'lovely Forum' in Sept 2021 when a lady relative bought one of my books & sent it over for him.
Since then he's told me how he's really enjoyed this Forum. About 18mths ago he told me he was fighting Bone Cancer and this sadly could be the reason we aren't seeing him posting. I hope I am wrong.
I've had quite a few emails from Donald over those 4 years and he never ever mentioned his life in Nova Scotia.This is the only pic he ever sent me showing his house in NS.

Norman, I hope that GBNS is able to read the messages being posted and that in due course he is able to let us know he is alive and well, hope that will be soon.

Wow what a fantastic home he lives in, hope he is still very happy living there and if so long may that last.

I agree he is missed, I always enjoyed his posts. What a nice house, now that is what we would call detached.

Looks lovely doesn't it with a view from the rear of the house I'm guessing over the ocean.
If you like solitude Nova Scotia is a place for you with just 47 people per square mile compared to the UK at 274.But amazingly it is quite heavily populated for Canada.
I do hope that Geordieboy NS is still OK to enjoy it.

Hello Norman,

Thank you so much for your email about Donald,

Very sadly, Donald died on the night of 25th May.

Although he had been unwell for some time, he bore his illness with great fortitude, never complaining and always optomistic, still driving to see his friends until shortly before he died. Even though expected, it was a shock when it happened; he'd seemed indestructable until then. He was a great sentamentalist at heart and it was his greatest wish to return home but sadly, it wasn't to be..

I get a measure of comfort knowing that the gift of your book brought about so much pleasure and friendship to him not only when he needed it most, but for some considerable time before that, and i'd like to thank you very much for that.

Would you be kind enough to pass on our thanks to the Forum regulars who were concerned about him. We very much appreciate their concerns.

Thank you on behalf of all his family for the pleasure you brought into his life.

Oh no not another board member gone.

There is a lack of the older members coming on the board with info. etc. inevitable though.

Sad news, was hoping it was a temporary absence but alas not. Geordieboy was a ray of sunshine on the board, he engaged with us all on the board, always positive, a good sense of humour and a friendliness that came across in his posts. He'll be missed.

Such sad news. We exchanged emails a little while ago when he was helping me locate an old friend of my Mam’s from Nova Scotia. He was generous with his time, helpful & thoughtful. May he rest in peace.

Tom Barker has been poorly recently and is not back on the Internet yet so he rang me (Norman) last night from his home in Scarborough to say how devastated he was hearing that GeordieBoyNS (Donald Stanley) died in May.
Donald & Tom both worked in Hebburn Palmer's Joiners shop & knew the same work mates even though him & Donald werent there at the same time.

Thank you for your comment Janet.
Your uncle Donald was welcomed on here the first day he posted which was late 2021 and as you can see he was loved by us all and will be missed.
RIP Donald as his old granny would say.
That term about his 'old granny' was one he often used when we talked about the past.
I dont know if his sister Kathleen uses a computer so can you explain to her how he is missed.

His description of the area around his home and the battles he had with the weather READ SNOW and journey times etc to get to various places. I would shudder at the thought of living there.

Nice to see a picture of his home but try to imagine it almost buried in the snows that they get there.

If you look carefully at the photo you will see red topped sticks by the driveway. They are used in the area to gauge the depth of the snow.
Another thing I learned because of Geordieboy!

And more importantly, those stick show you were the road/track is...because when it snows out there, you often end up with a complete white-over, with no idea where the road is, and more importantly, where the DITCH'S are......
