Daft Parking in Newcastle

So my wife decided on a trip to Newcastle, and the surrounding area, to catch up with an old work-mate.

On one day, they drove into Newcastle, and parked in the "Newcastle Queens Lane 1 NCP car park.

Approaching the pay machine, NO cash or card, you need their APP, so both tried to download the APP (reception was...) FINALY the APP was down loaded..but all spaces have to be pre-booked!

So you can't book in for another half hour..DUH!

So after 13 minutes of messing about, and NOT being able to book a space, they left.

Guess what?

Today, she received a FINE for not paying for parking, which she was UNABLE to do, due to their STUPID system.......

Are the NCP/Newcastle Council trying to stop tourists from parking, by making it almost impossible to do so...

Needless to say, she is appealing the £100 fine, as the CCTV will show, they spent 13 minutes at the pay machine, trying to pay, and then gave up, and left!!!!

Whenever we ised to drive into Newcastle we always used the car park in Dean Street, you can usually find a space, the problem there is on the way out the pavement sticks outside considerably you need to take care otherwise catching your wheels is a sure thing.

To be honest we find it easier but, more expensive, we park at the Metro Centre then either take a taxi into town or use the Metro.

That's all well & good, Liz, if you know your way around, which my wife (and me too) don't know the area.

My point was, that it's an impossible, and daft situation, where you have to pre-book, download an APP, etc, etc

Whatever happened to "find a space, pay a fee, pop the ticket in your car" go shopping...

Said it before, we don't pay for parking in Scotland (unless it's private land) So we park, shop...spend our money, and leave.... everyone happy!!!

Sorry Malcolm, I get your point, parking in Newcastle, as far as I am concerned, is a nightmare. Hope you wife gets the result from the parking fee challenge soon, it’s all wrong.

I find the best parking in Newcastle is either Manors or the Quayside multi stories.

No need for an app. Card only. Check in and check out with your card. You only pay for the time you are parked. No overpayment or worries about getting back in time before your time runs out.

Ten minute walk to the centre of town. Watch out for the tripping hazards of the hire electric scooters which get dumped everywhere. Also try to avoid getting run over by the take away delivery bikes.
Safer to shop on line me thinks!!!

Downside of Manors is possible kerb rash on your alloys due to high kerbs at the entrance and exit.

Don't know of a Metro station at the Metro Centre.

Ray, there is a train that runs from the Metro Centre to Newcastle Central Station apparently it takes 7 mins, I have never used it myself but I do know people who have.

email received today, as NCP admitted they could clearly see that my wife & her friend spent 13 minutes trying to download the APP, to discover that it was advanced booking only....

So, book a slot for a later time, drive off, and return in half an hour....ridiculous.

They declined...and drove off....

NCP have cancelled the fine !!!

Common sense then, but still a very stupid parking system, wonder who thought that one up?
