Comedy or not

Just watched 2 mins of Live at the Apollo. A woman telling her jokes hitting every foul subject she could, matched by every foul word she could use after every few words on stage. The audience roaring with laughter. I live a short walk away from Ken Dodd's house and a guy who never swore or was racial. In town he is still highly regarded. Is this foul mouthed woman future comedy. Sarah Millican is another example....

Today, he'd be described as lewd & racist, but back then?..........

This is so true. Social mores change over time, as do comedic tastes. Look at some of the comedies from 30+ years ago and many of them have aged like milk, as the saying goes.

Jokes about ethnic stereotypes, homosexuality and so on are considered highly offensive now, but we have a much higher tolerance for strong language and discussion of sex than we did in, say, the 1970s.

Sarah Millican is a South Shields person and has always been the same as a commedienne. My daughter took me to see her years ago and I was not impressed then. But some must be willing to pay the ticket price and have a good time. I just wouldn't watch her.

This tribute to 'potty mouth' Sarah Millican aswell as businessman Norman Fay a Cycleshop dealer in Shields & a Roman Soldier was created in 1989 and is on a Wall in Tyne Dock opposite 'Kennedy's Pub'. It cost £32,500 paid for by a partnership between our Council, British Coal and some other organisation.

A TRIBUTE TO A MAN WITH A little Bike SHOP IN SHIELDS AND A TRIBUTE TO A NOT VERY GOOD COMEDIAN. WHY were they chosen?
BUT NO TRIBUTE TO INDUSTRIALISTS WHO CREATED THOUSANDS OF JOBS FOR PEOPLE ALL OVER OUR AREA.
TYPICAL OF THIS COUNCIL ISNT IT?
