This photo from 1947 doesnt show the Windermere Cres Estate because it wasnt built until around 1950/51.My parents moved into Grasmere Rd on that estate about 1952/3 & the Slag Heap & Lakes became a playground for me and my mates.The little girl married Peter O'Neil a Hebburn man who worked for the Post Office in the Quay.

I think I heard it was a company called Tarmac Stan.
My days on the slagheap with my mates finished when I left school.

I didn't know you lived in Grasmere Rd. So did I. Number 29 Grasmere Rd. And I spent a lot of time on my bike! I used to cut through Monkton Village for the 2 years I attended the Grammar School.

We moved into Grasmere Rd 1952-3 when I was 8 or 9 years old Elizabeth. I can only remember your sister Audrey & the Barnes family next door to your Baker family.

Must be thousands of miles of roads round and about with hard-core from the stag heap, (bet a few councillors made a few backhanders out of it).

Hi Stan, when I was young enough and foolish enough to play on the Slag Heap the company slowly eating into it was called Edwin Clarkson Ltd.

On Tuesdays Jean McIntosh and I climbed the flag heap and felt free enough to swear. Something we couldn't do any where else!!!
