When I was young in the early 50s, the 'Powerhouse' Club was the place to be. As you can see on the photo it really was a little Power Station originally & when it closed down, local out of work people asked if a building or two could be allowed to be left so it could be used as a Club. They were granted their wish & skilled out of work locals created a brilliant club for young folk. People from all around the area became members of this new club, aptly named 'The Powerhouse' Happy days but all gone now.

You have some amazing photos, Norman.I was 7 when this one was taken. Can't see our house at Riverside.

I would have been 6 at the time, look at all those houses !

I remember going with my Dad Saturday mornings where he played piano for the regular dance classes which some on this Board may have been part of.
The piano had to be wheeled out from under the stage which as a nipper I found quite exciting.
Then of course I got bored sitting with my dad for the hour or two the classes took.

I went for dance classes a few times but got bored doing "toe. -heel" repeatedly before progressing to "shuffle, tap, stamp"

Indelibly in my memory. Girls tap dancing. I must have been 4 or 5 at the time.
