I never realised the size of American States

Ive never thought about how big American States are until this image was sent to me by my son.
Texas overlaid over Europe.

At the other end of the scale is one of my favourite states...Vermont...which perhaps confirms that little is not always least!
Or in the case of England which as part of Great Britain civilized much of the world. We should remain proud of that while so many make efforts to deny and reduce our history.

I've spent a fair amount of time in the US, and they ARE big.
Chatting to a guy in Arizona (in the South-west) was going "Home for Christmas" in the North-East...it was a FOUR day drive !!!

On the other hand, friends from Texas visited me, when I lived in Nottinghamshire. Hired a car at Heathrow, & drove north, up the A1....

Were just short of NEWCASTLE, before they realised that they must have "missed their turn-off"!!

They are SO used to things being long-distance, they couldn't get their heads around shorter distances; i.e London to Notts, 3 hours TOPS, with multiple turn-offs, they could drive 6 hours PLUS without an intersection!!!

We’ve spent time there too. They think nothing of driving hundreds of miles and hop on and off planes like buses!

Now overlay a map of Australia on a map of the United States and see exactly how SMALL Texas really is.

Yes Steve, I once saw a map of Australia overlayed on Europe.... ALL of Europe, and a bit more..

Mac C, the only reason there is so much Fosters on the rest of the World is because we have better products for degreasing truck engines
