Rules and regs

I was about to buy a drone to film church steeples but trying to obtain a licence from the Civil Aviation Authority is an ordeal of form filling etc. They want to know the size, weight, power and camera details. Then proof of what I want it for and red tape checking my details..Too much aggro so its not worth it.

Stan, it can be a nightmare if your going to use a drone commercially. You need permission from the CAA, take tests and be insured. You may get around this if your drone is under 250g.
You can fly drones and model aircraft that are below 250g, or UK0, UK1 or C0 class in residential, recreational, commercial and industrial areas.
According to the CAA, you may fly a drone over private property as long as these rules are followed: Drones must be flown below 400 feet altitude. You must keep the drone within visual line of sight.
I got into drones back in 2014, buying the likes of the Syma's then even built my own using KK2.1 flight controllers. Programming I found difficult so went back to buying them. The mistake I made was not selling my old ones on. I've kept them all. Difficult selling them on now, I cannot get batteries for many anymore, so they have just become dust collectors. Picture is my present drones.

Blimey, rick, you have a few! Those top 2 look like my one, which I haven't used in a while. I wouldn't class as a drone, rather than a light controlled aircraft, as it can't hover, like a drone. It needs to take off into wind (like an aircraft) and flown forwards, like an aircraft.. Must get mine out again!
Yes Malcolm, it's more of a plane. They are the Parrot Disco's. Not made anymore but great flyers. Be carefull if using the original battery's, they can charge to 100% then drain in 10 seconds and the plane can just drop anywhere. I've carved out the inner foam to take bigger replacement battery's.
