Why we had a club called the 'Powerhouse Club'

Hebburn had its own little Power Station as you can see on the aerial view. Before it was demolished, Hebburn people asked if part of it could be left standing so it could be made into a Club for the young people.So they got their wish and the young people rallied round and created what a lot of us remember simply as 'The Powerhouse'.
Young people from Towns around our area became regulars there and some of them met their partners there. What a GREAT Club it was.

Great photo Norman, thank you. It’s the first time I’ve understood where Holystone Street was exactly. It’s where my parents lived when I was born.
Also, McIntyre Street where my Dad was brought up and Dunston Street where the family lived before that.

Looking at my birth certificate their address was William Street but I do recall my mother saying they lived in Holystone Street too.
