One of the problems I will have in the future is that I have old programs, like quickbooks, that isn't being supported any longer. That means I can't install it on the new machine. The new quickbooks are rented instead of owned, and I don't like that and won't do that.
When I get a new machine, I make a directory called old computer and transfer all the old data to the new hard drive in case I missed something. Of course that includes all the data from the one before that and the one before that. But, I don't lose anything.
Last time I bought an external hard drive and stored a lot of the old things there. But those things are so slow.
