New M1 macs cant really run windows properly any more. So consider many of your windows only software will NOT work if you buy and M1 Mac.



There are lots of apps that are not available on Macs but are on Windows. These are niche/business or gaming apps though. Many AAA games are not and will not be available for Mac. And many niche apps aren't. For example, I am an Elearning developer by trade and the #1 app suite fo that (Articulate) is not and will never be available for Mac (they keep telling their gullible users that it runs fine on Parallels....but reality is that they developed the core software based heavily on Win PPT libraries so no way it's coming to Mac ever). With M1 that makes the divide that much greater.

That said....there's gotta be some upper classmates in your major you can ask this question to. FFS this is reddit : ) I don't know what college you're going to but post this question there and you'll get a legit answer.
