Satire is based on facts, with a bunch of made up humor thrown in for good measure. An adult activist should expect to be mocked. It goes with the territory. I mean that activist causes more carbon to be burned than I do, and I farm.

I think the problem is that you filter your humor through your viewpoint. We all do to some extent. Jokes and satire are always funnier when they mock the other guys and not so funny when they mock us.

You might be surprised to know that as a farmer, my favorite jokes are ones that make farmers look stupid. Being secure in who I am, I can laugh right along. My sister likes to wall herself off from the rest of the family, but once in a while she will text me a joke, instead of actually telling me what is going on.

I got this joke just this week. Picture: Two farmers standing on opposite sided of a fence talking, one with a for sale sign in the front yard. The text goes as follows:

"I had a cow two years ago and she never had a calf. You said I needed a bull, so I sold the cow and bought a bull--still no calf."


Life is a whole lot brighter when you have a sense of humor and can laugh at yerself.
