Undocumented immigrants who have committed no additional crimes should not, in my view, be any sort of priority for law enforcement. That priority should always be tilted toward serious, violent offenders. The resources spent on otherwise-non-offending undocumented folk are largely resources wasted.

This is particularly true for those people who are actively employed, contributing to the economy, and in the large majority of cases paying taxes. Deporting thes3e people and their households is a net loss.

In the case of veterans you mention, I think they should be amnestied from any charges, assuming an honorable discharge and no other criminal issues. They served. Same for someone currently serving: let them see out their enlistment, and if/when honorably discharged, amnesty them.
