When I was around 12 years old, I had one of those single-pump Daisy BB-guns.
That BB-gun had no range. Shooting it at anything over about 20 feet away you had to aim above your target to hit anything. I was up in the backyard, and I saw a Morning Dove sitting on a tree branch quite a ways away. Just to see if I could hit anything that far away, I took a shot at it. I aimed well above it, and the BB missed low and to the right. So I aimed a little higher and to the left a little. The next BB hit the bird right in the chest. The bird swung down under the branch, holding on with one talon for a few seconds, then dropped to the ground. I ran over to check it out. It was sitting on the ground looking at me, with a little ruffle in its chest feathers where the BB had gone in. Slowly it opened its beak, and threw up a big blob of blood. I've never hunted anything ever again since that day.
