So, in order to be an effective leader, one has to know the character of his followers, and implement a relevant style that is motivating. That explains why we see some succeed and others fail when it comes to achievement.
(A university professor in a business leadership class told me an interesting story about county employees taking the class to improve their promotion opportunities. One thing they did not want in their “record” was their discussion about Hitler because ‘by the book’ Hitler is considered a good leader because of his followers and their deeds, even though the mission itself was abhorrent. (Apparently the fact that he ultimately failed isn’t part of that definition.)
There’s a variety of successful leadership styles. Education is a useful tool for improving the performance.
