I doubt the religious texts written back then were meant to be 100% accurate. I wonder if they even cared. I think they stretched the truth, exaggerated, may have even lied, used metaphors as a vehicle to express a belief in something they thought existed beyond the human world. I am sure politics entered into it. There was no separation of church and state. Church was quite often state. And today's world? It's different. I am not so sure people are. I think some are unwilling to let go of the beliefs they grew up with. I don't think that is necessarily a function of ignorance. I don't think its a function of intelligence necessarily. I think it speaks of something deeper.
