I've always liked the truism "your enemy is never evil in their own eyes," but they may very well be deliberately shunning information that would likely shift their viewpoint if assessed objectively. That may not be, of itself, an "evil" act, but it's certainly morally dubious at best.

My own assessments don't tend to suffer from this (by inclination and training), but I'm not good at incorporating that critical empathy component. I'm not put together that way by nature and have to deliberately, mindfully do my best to incorporate it. Those efforts meet mixed success...
