Have you ever been unfairly fired or terminated from a job you liked?

One of the companies I drive for just suspended my account to investigate some claims by one of my passengers. I did not do any of the stuff they claimed I did. Sometimes passengers make up lies about their drivers to get a refund. That's what happened to me. The case is still being investigated.

I use a forward facing dash cam to record all my driving. The dash cam does not record what happens in my car, so I have no way to prove I am innocent. I did over 14,000 drives for that company, and this lie matches another lie from another passenger about 5 years ago. I'm afraid I will be permanently deactivated this time.

I can still drive for another company that pays less.

Remember OW who used to post here about 20 years ago? He posted about a similar experience on his website here: "I lost a job once, because the "project was done", only to learn 2 weeks later they thought I'd been writing on the bathroom walls. After I was gone, they repainted and the writing continued. But the job was still gone. Good job too. Bummer.

It's never happened to me.

I am not surprised by your story.

My granddaughter has a summer job - working as a hostess. She is still a high school kid - 16 years old and very excited about the job. She has already had to defend herself because of an over-bearing manager who has the attitude of 'I'm right, you're wrong. End of story'. Happy to say she stood her ground, proved her case and won the argument. He is the worm in an otherwise barrel of good apples.

You have to stand up for yourself. No one else is going to do it for you and there are a lot of companies that would simply rather assume the worker is guilty than go to the bother and make the effort to really do a proper investigation.

Only two complaints out of so many, many clients - ridiculous that they would even consider terminating your account, but if there is an abundance of drivers looking for work they probably are not worried about the loss of one driver.

Crappy of them to treat you that way. But not surprising, sad to say.

I lost the best job I ever had because I was not as paranoid as the person in this movie. I did not film the interior of my car while driving for UBER. A passenger lied about me so they could get a refund from UBER. I was not able to prove my innocence, so I lost my job.

The guy in this movie was falsely accused of murder. He becomes so paranoid that he even films himself on the toilet.

UBER has libeled me and cheated me out of over $350

Today I got an email from UBER saying they reviewed my case and my account is now permanently deactivated. They still have not paid me my earnings for the week of Mar 17, 2025 – Mar 24, 2025.

There is a special forum for people who drive for UBER, they give good advice there. I will ask them for advice later today.

So now I have lost the best job I ever had, because 2 out of 14,000 customers lied about me.

I am still driving LYFT. LYFT is a decent honest company, but they don't have as much work for me as UBER did.

Did they finally pay what you were owed?

In your case I don't know what the best avenue is to take.

But just to offer up an idea:

Many years ago I had a boyfriend who was a reporter for a local newspaper. He had the same claim - they hadn't paid him for his work. He reached a point where it was obvious he wasn't going to solve it by trying to work it out with his employer.

He gathered his documented proof and submitted it all with a cover letter to the state department of labor. He got results.

I'd suggest you be as aggressive as possible with Uber.

They thrive on dealing with people as numbers or codes, keeping their distance from anything more palpable. As long they can keep you at a distance and keep you isolated you're at a disadvantage. A "review" of any "event" that does not include your opportunity to give a full explanation to another human being is not a review at all--it's just pushng paper around.
My guess is you are someone who avoids confrontation.
Now does not seem the time to follow a passive course. Treat them as a bureaucratic adversary. Be polite, but don't go away. Try to make them deal with you, not a number or code on a system or a sheet of paper, but don't give thgem anything to call "hostile" behavior.

The car had defective brakes. I took it for service 7 times, then crashed due to the brake defect. Then I hired a lawyer because I was angry. I did finally get a refund.

You are right, I usually do avoid conflict and confrontation.

Now UBER has permanently deactivated my account. I can't even login to contact them. I can't log in to make an appointment to see them. I will have to walk in to their support office without an appointment.

UBER has many other dissatisfied workers. The dissatisfied workers are a good helpful resource for people like me. I can get good advice from them.

12 years of service. Then a new manager. All of a suddent I got weird reviews (one claimed I wore pajamas to work - yes, really). At first I brushed them off and explained that's not possible.

Then I created a special tracking program for them. Was working great until said manager squashed it and I got a warning.

After all was said and done, I discovered two other people in my age range with similar tenure were likewise canned. Replaced with two part timers (no worries over benefits).

She is a Physical Therapist Asst. and had worked for this company for 34 years in their nursing homes for having accidentally given a patient a sip of water, when she shouldn't have...she suddenly realized she had done wrong and did everything she could to rectify it and the patient was not disturbed by what happen and neither was his wife, they were sad how the facility was treating our daughter....it was due to a new administrator in the facility and the administrator was vicious with our daughter putting her on "probation" for it.... Fortunately, our daughter knew other administrators that begged for her to come to their facility they were working for...and also gave her a healthy raise...so, she went......this all happened about 3 years ago...

The administrator that put her on probation was fired by the corporation about 3 months later...

Last weekend she went back to the facility to sub for some of her old friends....and was so happy to see more of her old friends, as they were to see her, and even one lady that she had thought didn't like her was giggling and soooo happy to see her again.....

given how unloveable I truly am. Their love and respect was shown when giving notice because they took me out to lunch often upon resigning. It’s a puzzlement.

Your situation sucks, Ken. Unfair that the customer's word means more than yours.

Back when I was almost about to retire, I went to an evening meeting to discuss a proposed residential subdivision. I had done the traffic study. In response to a resident's question, I said that most of the traffic would come in and out at the main entrance.

He made some snide comment that I didn't know what I was talking about and that most people would come in and out past his house, which was a back route that was longer and that most people WOULDN'T use.

I snapped back at him. 30 years of listening to idiot residents who thought they could treat us all like crap finally boiled over and I snapped back at him. I forget what I said. Something like "That would be stupid! Why would people go THAT way?"

The County Supervisor was there and when I glanced at him he was glaring at me.

Fortunately I retired soon after. lol

UBER still has not paid me for my last week of driving for them.

They still have not sent me my pay for March 17th - March 23rd.

I am sending them a message through their website demanding they send me the pay for my last week of driving for them.

I understand they are allowed to deactivate my account and not let me drive for them anymore, but I think it's illegal for them to refuse to send me the money for the work I already did for them.

Maybe they are going belly up.

They already have more drivers than they need. Drivers already spend a lot of time resting in their cars waiting for work.

The burden of proof should be on the person making the claim.

Too many people have had careers ruined because of someone’s “claim”. I say prove it or STFU.

Losing a contract over a minimal complaint, is unreasonable fare payment loss. Sorry you're getting targeted by an ungrateful rider.

Hopefully you will get paid soon. Are you considering in suing them ,? I would talk to a lawyer about the mental stress they inflicted on you. Can you say Union Yes now ?
