Will these new tariffs affect my pension plan ?

It doesn’t look good in my opinion.

According to some morons, you're never supposed to touch pension funds.

Just invest in more when you should be reaping the benefits of earlier investments

Greedy people put all their retirement funds in growth funds. And that worked out great for the past decade, altho there was a huge drop during covid. But the market recovered.

A lot of folks have a part of their retirement in cash reserves. You might get a lower return for that, maybe 5%, but it is safe. During down turns, that is where the withdrawals are made.

Lot of bitter folks out there crying in their beer right now because they thought the bull market would never end.

The dumbest thing to do now (and I know this from experience) is to get out now and plan to get back in at the bottom. Some get out now and then get back in when the market is booming again at a higher price. Never again. Lesson learned.

If you panic and get out of the market now, you lose. I expect it to keep going down for a while. The market is still vastly over valued. In other words companies are valued much higher than they ought to be, based on their earnings. I'm surprised the bulls drove the market this high for this long. It was ready for a fall (correction).

Long term, it will come back, but it will take a while.

The proposed tariffs are not designed to be permanent, but to be a bargaining chip to get others to get rid of their trade barriers. Some countries are coming to the bargaining table to do something about their tariffs on us. Maybe if it costs these other countries something, they may do something other than talk about making things fair.

It will all work out some day. In the meantime, it gives partisans something to cry about.

The DOW was at 44000 on Jan 20 2025 today it just went down to 40+++

If a pension is your only source of income and it's not enough to live on, you didn't plan well.

Hopefully, in addition to pension income, you have other sources of income and savings which together exceed your living expenses.

My point was, make investments from your income excess when the market is down.

The current situation is an opportunity for the wise.
