closed ranks (to preserve their interest in entertainment jobs?) and pressured Disney to bring him back, but but two major networks won’t be showing tonight’s performance. So, since Kimmel’s appearance won’t improve the profit margin, which is usually the bottom line, it begs the question: what is Disney’s motivation?

Business isn't just about gaining profits, its about controlling loss as well.

No one that I know of implied that Disney would earn profits by bringing Kimmel back. The losses from the fallout from Kimmel'c cancellation is what Disney was trying to control:

Following ABC's decision to suspend late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Sept. 17, 2025, several posts online claimed its parent company Disney lost nearly $4 billion in valuation overnight.

Snopes calculations revealed that overnight, Disney's market capitalization fell by $1.4 billion.

However, by the end of the week, it had dropped $4.2 billion. The next week, on Sept. 22, Disney's valuation had dropped by $6.4 billion. While this tumble was linked to the backlash against the company for the decision to remove Kimmel's show, financial analysts were overall optimistic about the stock.

ABC announced its decision regarding Kimmel's show on Sept. 17, 2025, after the end of trading hours at the New York Stock Exchange. The first reports appeared at 6:45 pm in New York, 30 minutes after a news release from Nexstar Media Group, which said its ABC affiliates would "preempt" Kimmel's show starting that evening following comments from Kimmel it found controversial regarding the death of Turning Point USA co-founder and CEO Charlie Kirk. (On Sept. 22, ABC announced it was reinstating the show the following day, PBS reported.)

That day, Disney's stock price closed at $116.10, after reaching a high of $116.66. The next morning, it opened at $115.33. This represented a drop of 0.66%.

As of Aug. 6, 2025, when Disney reported earnings for its third fiscal quarter, the company had 1.799 billion basic shares outstanding. Multiplying this number by the stock price results in the company's market capitalization. For example, at closing Sept. 17, the company's market capitalization was approximately $208.9 billion. The next morning at opening, it was $207.5 billion. Overnight, the company lost $1.4 billion, not the $3.87 claimed in some social media posts.

However, by the end of the week on Sept. 19, with its stock price at $113.76, Disney's market capitalization had fallen by $4.2 billion, or 2.5%, to $204.7 billion. The share price closed at $112.56 on Sept. 22, bringing Disney's market capitalization to $202.5 billion — down $6.4 billion, or 3.0%, from the start of trading Sept. 18.

Some financial publications, including Yahoo! Finance, said this fall was linked to the concern of some investors who were selling the stock following reports that customers angry about the network's decision to suspend Kimmel's show were canceling their subscriptions to Disney's streaming platforms.

makes the show's cancellation permanent and take the hit from cancelled subscriptions or try to reverse the cancellations by bringing Kimmel back, or at least stop more people from cancelling. We saw what their choice was.

To you he is a partisan hack, to others he makes valid points.

The talk shows that I am familiar are often hosted by comedians. Their monologue is not a news report given by a journalist. I always keep that in mind when I listen to them - if I listen to them.

As I said I never paid any attention to Kimmel until now. We pulled the plug on cable TV years ago. Our subscription to streaming services is very limited.

I may disagree to the strongest degree with what someone says, but I don't seek to silence them because of it. I rather shoot their ideas down with reason and evidence rather than try to make them disappear through censorship, which does not work anyway.

Freedom of speech and the ability to explore different ideas that are laid before us is one of the ways we learn and move forward. Government enforced censorship is not the sign of a nation that values democracy.

I worry about this current administration because through threats and lies and lawsuits it attempts to control what We the People hear. That is not the America I want to live in.

He is a sick joke.

I therefore really can't say whether I disagree or agree with your assessment of Kimmel. I did listen to his monologue in question. He certainly said nothing against Charlie Kirk. He did say his murder was senseless and that he will never understand people who celebrate it.

The charge was that Kimmel was lying. I've never known politicians/government not to lie. Big business does what is in their interest financially and has been known to lie too. I noticed when protests over Kimmel's show being suspended resulted in accounts being cancelled, Disney had a change of heart. That's because money speaks the loudest to business. The idea that they suspended Kimmel's show due to the timing of his comment being insensitive is laughable.

Kimmels monologue was directed at Trump, not at Kirk and his family who were the victims. Trump wasn't the victim in this.

I don't want a government controlled media. I don't want a media that is under the control of the financial interests of big business. I don't want to live in a country that censors its citizens, not permitting criticism of government or any one else for that matter. I don't want hypocrites deciding what I can and can not hear, what I or anyone else for that matter can or can not say.

Many people throughout my lifetime have said things I strongly disagree with. I stood against the content of what they have said. I challenged them and voiced my opinion. I stepped forward to invalidate ideas that I consider bad ones. I did not seek to silence them. We can learn from bad ideas. We learn next to nothing only hearing what we agree with and what makes us happy.

If the demand is that Kimmel may only speak the truth, then the same standard must be applied to those who criticize him. If that standard only applies to Kimmel or anyone who we consider to be our opponents, then we really don't value the truth as we say we do.

1. It was the Maga reference and that it was a lie, and he knew it at the time that caused the uproar which is the second point

2. The uproar from the people to stations all over the country demanding something be done brought about many cancellations, to a company already losing big bucks on the Kimmel show. His audience, not that great to begin with, has shrunk immensely.

Nighttime comedians and entertainers should take their clues from successful examples like Johnny Carson who can be found on Utube Explaining why he didn’t get political.

To reiterate: If one truly values the truth it needs to be upheld wherever one goes. Trump said Kimmel said horrible things about Kirk. I can't find any evidence of that. It's Trump that Kimmel was making fun of. Trump wanted Kimmel off the air.

ABS did not say they were suspending the show due to falling ratings and viewership. They said they were pulling the show due to comments Kimmel made. When Disney starting taking a financial hit as subscribers cancelled their subscriptions, Kimmel was allowed to come back.

Johnny Carson (I've watched his show numerous times) was what I call safe humor. So was Merv Griffin. But safe doesn't get us thinking.

It's very hard for me to believe that Trump did not have something to do with it. He is very thin skinned. But this is the point I was making with Trump:

If you believe Kimmel got what he deserved (the cancellation of his show) - what about Trump and his lies? What does he deserve?

So, I don’t know your sources or why that would be claimed, but it sounds to me like someone’s commentary that isn’t factual. I wouldn’t go as far as saying Trump didn’t like it. He is more than a little touchy about assassinations or misrepresenting the facts about them.

I selected a news network that most conservatives/Republicans seem to like. Here is Trump's reaction to Kimmel's return to late night which Trump posted on TruthSocial:

"Most notably, Trump suggested potential legal action, stating, “I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative.” " (Boldface mine).

Trump is threatening to sue ABC over Kimmel's return. It's beyond obvious that Trump wants Kimmel gone.

You keep making it about Trump. Trump had a lot to say. He did not cause the firing. The network said so. It couldn’t be any plainer.

Trump is a different issue. I admit his remarks have been incendiary, but two points should be considered.

1. He’s been the victim of two assassination attempts, one that drew blood.

2. Kimmel set up a joke about an actual assassination by claiming that the assassin was part of Maga.

Three points:

we’re horrified and the affiliated stations reacted, Kimmel was let go.

People in their hatred for Trump have literally gone crazy. On today’s news were videos of pregnant women, who apparently hate so much, that they are downing acetaminophen as a protest!

Another anti-Ice attack today because of the one-sided violence coming from the radical left. This hatred leads to death.

As to why ABC suspended Kimmel, the following is from ABC News:

There are two problems with this issue. ABC had not suspended Kimmel due to declining viewership. They suspended him because of what he said. This brings us back to the freedom of speech issue.

Second problem is Trump had his nose stuck in the middle of this. Government censorship is not a desirable in a free democratic society.

"Before the network's decision was announced last week, Carr suggested that Kimmel should be suspended over the comments.

“There's calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think, you know, you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this and again, you know, the FCC is going to have remedies that we could look at," Carr said on a podcast with conservative commentator Benny Johnson.

Jimmy Kimmel will return to his late-night show on Tuesday, The Walt Disney Co., the parent company of ABC, said in a statement on Monday.

"Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive," the company said in a statement. "We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday."

Kimmel was suspended due to his comments.

ABC & Disney both admitted it. If they tried to back pedal on this (I haven't seen anything yet stating that they have BTW), especially after the backlash started, that speaks poorly of their credibility.

An attempt on Trump's life (and yes, I do not support the idea that it was staged by Trump) does not give Trump a license to lie. The least he can do is retract his statement and call off his dogs. That will not happen as Trump is continuing forward with his threats to ABC. It is very obvious that Trump is pressuring ABC to fire Kimmel.

I repeat: "Before the network's decision was announced last week, Carr suggested that Kimmel should be suspended over the comments." And who is Carr? A Trump appointee. Ted Cruz even came out and said Carr was talking like a "Mafioso" and his threat was right out of Goodfellas. It's hard to believe Carr isn't aware of Trump's attitude towards Kimmel and that it hasn't influenced him. After all, he has Trump to thank for his current job.

I repeat my question: The charge against Kimmel was lying. If you (or anyone else) believes that suspension of his show was deserved, what does Trump deserve for his lie? A pass?? I don't think so. That's unequal justice, which isn't justice at all.

The pregnant women were taking Tylenol to protest Trump's claim that taking Tylenol is dangerous to the unborn. Obviously they wouldn't be downing Tylenol if they believed him. Pregnant women should consult their doctors on this. . . NOT Trump.

ICE? There is unjustified violence on both sides.

The 'right' is no better than the 'left'. There is emotionalism, false accusations, finger pointing, hate, and anger coming from both sides and aimed at the other side. It is why I refuse to align with either party. Partisan politics will never unite a people.

THe timing is suspect, and I watched Kimmel three times... nothing he said warranted firing

The whole Tylenol thing is dog and pony. The previous studies concluded (correctly) that there is no causation. Plus Tylenol came on the market LONG AFTER autism was diagnosed.

Please don't take what I am about to say wrong. The violence is a huge issue, but ICE is bringing a lot of negativity on itself with its own violence and actions.

Think about it. The masks, the refusal to identify, the lack of warrants, stopping people at the courthouse just prior to final hearings (didn't we want this legal?), and the behavior that suggests they just want those bonus checks (bounty hunters) who cares about the associated damages?

The vast majority of arrests have been against the student, the coffee server, the mom, the lawnkeeper, etc. The number of hardened criminals (which we were told would be the FOCUS) is minimal.

If they acted professionally (last I checked you don't need 6-9 guys for one person, nor did they need to shoot up and turn over people's and leave the mess behind when wrong)... I would be okay.

If you want respect, do things the right way. Take off the mask, identify, have your papers in order, and let people do their due diligence in court. That's not hard...

Maybe you should go into law enforcement.

callousness involving military work. If mobilized in a war, you are in a position that you may have to kill someone else who has never done anything to you personally. You have to have trust in your Commander-in-Chief, that he or she will make the right decisions. You have to believe that war is necessary, particularly the one you find yourself in.

We are a military family. My husband joined the Navy and served for 20 years because he believed that this country has given him a safe place to live and opportunities. He wanted to give back to the people who went before him and sacrificed in order that he/we may have what he does by not letting the results of their efforts die.

So there is, walking hand in hand with that degree of callousness, a certain idealism to it too. You can find yourself in an inner struggle - ideals quite literally pitted against loyalty to country. It can be very challenging that way.

In the end, what stands between the US and those who would like to invade and take over is the military - not politicians, not Presidents, not our allies. It's our military. They deserve more credit than they get.

I believe Trish would do her best to be fair.

Lucifer? That's rather over the top. I can think of many who I believe are more qualified for that position than Kimmel.
