I’m down at a shopping mall north of San Francisco.

I went into 12 stores. Not one plays Christmas music. How can that be. Part of the Christmas spirit is the music. It makes me want to shop and spend money. In fact, the stores play crap music. That causes me to get out as soon as possible. The products are garbage and so is the music. Other than that I’m having fun looking at all the weird people.

I miss the Christmas Caroling Truck.

This big Christmas truck used to drive around my neighborhood the day before Christmas.

The people who ran it got old and retired. They replaced it with something smaller and quieter.

Later I moved away.

Unexpected knocks on the door at night tend to make some people uneasy. Sign of the times. I miss the old days.

You don’t want to offend pagans and Allah. Consequently I’m offended. Retail needs that spirit. You won’t sell many clothes catering to burqa wearers.

Nobody stopped anybody from playing Christmas music, you would be upset if they played any other religion's holiday music. I think using any religions' music to sell stuff is not honorind any religion.

In my own 80 years, very few people have ever said Merry Christmas to me.

are not heavily religious, if at all. But signal the spirit of the season. Christmas is the cause for retail sales. People want to buy and give gifts. It’s a huge part of the economy. I wanna hear glad tidings, Joy, and to be wished a Merry Christmas. Let me be the first to wish you and trish a hearty MERRY CHRISTMAS.

The Christmas shopping season is a modern invention, starting in the 1840s in England.

Before that time, Protestants considered it far too Pagan and far too Catholic. In Puritan Mass. it was considered a serious crime to celebrate Christmas.

So again no Christmas shopping season until we borrowed the new English Christmas from wealthy English in the 1840s. Our present idea of a Christmas shopping season was invented by Charles Dickens in his novel A Christmas Carol. I found this out because it was one of my favorite books, as were the many movie versions. The three Christmas ghosts are remarkably Pagan rather than Christian.

The middle class copied the wealthy. It was not until the 1930s before there were enough cheap toys from China for poor people could take part in Christmas shopping in England.

and happy people wanting to purchase a gift for someone to make both the giver and receiver happy. Joy to the world is apparently not your value. Christ is not a pagan.

GOG just against turning a religious event into a major money making scam that bankrupts so many. Even Jesus went after the money changers at the temple. Wealth and political power corrupts any established religion.

Easter to be the highest Christian holiday/holy day as its the foundation to the belief.

Christmas gets most of the hoopla though. The decorations are pretty, visiting and family gatherings are great, caroling (when it was still done) was fun. I always enjoyed the candle-lit midnight service. But Christmas has been over commercialized for far too long. I know a good deal of people who stress over Christmas - what gift to buy, how they are going to afford it. . . .

You're right - the religious side of the equation, the birth of Jesus, has nothing to do with money. No one knows when he was truly born . . . Christmas has become something like a traditional birthday assigned and not the actual one.
