Is atheism self refuting?

It's self refuting in that the atheism has to assume stuff about God to make their case.

The only "case" an atheist makes is that they personally don't believe in (any) gods.

Atheism doesn't try to prove that no gods exist. Even if that were humanly possible (it probably isn't), that's not what atheism describes. Atheism is a particular leap of faith on the matter of the truth-state of the proposition "God exists." It's an assertion,* not an argument.

*an assertion that the person has consciously recognized the "direction" of that non-volitional leap, to belief that gods don't exist.
