Soul vs. Spirit (a real conversation)

If one believes in such things, what is the difference between the soul and spirit? As I understand it:

The soul is a person's makeup, memories, will, and personality. The soul processes thoughts and creates the foundation for personal identity. In Hebrew (nephesh) or Greek (psyche), the entire living person.

The Spirit is internal, an immortal spark that functions as a connection to God and spiritual awareness. It facilitates awareness and intuition. Looking at Hebrew texts, the word is ruach (Hebrew) or pneuma (Greek), referring to the life force from God

The relationship is simple. The soul bridges between the physical and the spirit. The spirit then serves as a driving guide for the soul and body and a bridge to the Divine

"soul and spirit?" To me, they are IDENTICAL.

Do you think something like this reasoning is common among those who believe in the soul, etc? I like how it takes two distinct metaphysical concepts and describes both their differences and interactions.

Forgive this quick overview

Soul (Vital Principle)

Old English sāwol and Proto-Germanic *saiwalō, generally referring to the "spiritual and emotional part of a person," "animate existence," or "life". It was used to describe the non-physical essence of a living being, often representing the total person (body and breath) rather than just an immortal, separate spirit.

Spirit

The original meaning of the word spirit is "breath" or "breathing," derived from the Latin spiritus. It refers to the vital principle or "breath of life" that animates humans and animals. This Latin root signifies both respiration and wind, emphasizing the invisible, essential force that gives life.

By the 1400s the term also applied to ghosts, angels, and demons.

Distinctions are important for context of meaning.

The definitions you gave are a great example.

*tangent to the spirit definition is the “Bless You” after a sneeze. It was believed your spirit or demon left your body after a sneeze.

In the case of “blessings” I can probably mention a few things but I think you meant you would like to know more about Oversoul Seven.

It’s a series of stories based in the spirit realm. An oversoul is more than a guardian angel. It has a journey that observes the journeys of human life but exists outside of time in a school like setting. An oversoul is sort of a compilation of human experiences that intersects throughout time.

It’s been a while since I read them. I’m reminded of the basic ideas that I had from reading them. It seemed familiar to much of my life experiences. Familiar and kindred spirits interact in every human lifetime. From an oversoul perspective its incarnations in every time simultaneously.

Like quantum physics double slit experiments observation is key.

As a monist, I believe you can wrap up all of those aspects in one word, consciousness.

As the brain dies, so does consciousness with nothing left but corporeal remains.

Such words are not rooted in the concrete, in the physical.

I've known the words to be used interchangeably, and not.

I subscribe to no particular definition.

Seems reasonable.
