While wages should increase commensurate with cost of living increases, this increase will cut into dining out. The market is already tight. Covid killed off many establishments. The consumer is feeling squeezed with inflation and tariff impact. Go woke go broke NYC.

I want to help the poor, but higher minimum wages seem like they cause more problems than they solve.

Plus tourists don't want to go to NYC. The thrill is gone.

The biggest issue imo is how to maintain the physical NYC. Built rather quickly over a relatively short time period, when it begins to crumble the downhill slide might well be unstoppable due to $cost. Its shelf life is approaching. Mandan is a portent.

it's worth noting this is NOT just an NYC problem. Consider:

Wendy's: Planned to close up to 350 U.S. locations during the first half of the year.

Pizza Hut: Scheduled to close 250 underperforming U.S. stores.

Papa Johns: Intends to close roughly 200 units as part of a restructuring plan extending toward 2027.

Noodles & Company: Planning to cut another 30 to 35 company-owned location

Quiznos, Crumbl,Steak n SHake, KFC, and Pizza Hut are all showing serious signs of struggle

Rather than go slow and save jobs, he went whole hog. He is projecting the future $30 per hour out of thin air. Everyone is tightening their belt. Do with less and trust the Covid economy improves in the near future. Better a bird in the hand than none in the bush. PS: And a big damper on tips.
