I always tell people that the reason that California is so expensive
is because it's better than where you live. It's called the sunshine tax for a reason. We just got back from our annual Napa trip. God damn it's nice there. Previous Message ...someone pick up their life and move it here with no existing roots or network. The juice ain't gonna be worth the squeeze unless you're pretty well off. I'm just going through my random list of acquaintances and I can't think of a single one where neither parent happens to be a native. It just rarely seems to work that way. Maybe it's that way everywhere but definitely seems to be the case here if you decide to have a family. Previous Message admittedly all of which were transplants, every single one of them has moved away. I love California, and I love going back to visit, but the cost of living is just too much. This is also where I remind you that you live in a free house next to a free guest house. Previous Message ...and despite everyone complaining about "Californians" invading their state, we have the 4th most sticky population if you're a native Californian. So, their argument was the vast majority of people moving away from California were likely people who were transplants to start with based on the birthplace stickiness metric. Which also seems valid. I'm not a native, but I'm native adjacent and there's no way it'd be possible to live where I do without birthplace stickiness due to cost of living and insularness. Previous Message But, because of personal history, are there moving locations and/or vibes that are a hard-pass for you? Farms. I worked on farms as a yute...I listen to all these crystal-collecting, earth mother, hippies talk about how great it'd be to buy a farm and get outta the city, etc. MF'er...do you know how much work running a farm is? Even a small one? HARD FUCKING PASS.
