We did this a few years ago and stayed in Manhattan. Around 49th St and Park Ave…
Google maps calls it Midtown East. It was centrally located, since we went to Central Park, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Bridge, The Met, MoMA, Highline, Broadway area, East Village, etc. it was a pretty quiet area, few blocks from Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park, Radio city Music hall We were a few blocks from multiple train lines, so I’d plan to get whatever the multiple day tourist train pass is. Though last year we went back and stayed in the East village, since we seemed to like that area more and did fewer tourist things.

If I want to spend 4 or 5 days in NYC doing all of the touristy stuff, where do I want to stay? - LovetheChief Today, 9:45:48
- Midtown, though lacking in neighborhood feel, is probably the most convenient location. - Herman Blume Today, 11:35:38
- What's "all the touristy stuff?" Do you want to stand outside of a morning TV broadcast, hollering - complainant Today, 11:23:19
