leave early and make the drive up in one day. get a white fish dinner at four suns in hancock michigan. stay in coper harbor for a three days, taking day trips to the porcupine mountains and checking out the waterfalls - there's an awesome canyon a little south of L'Anse michigan on hwy 41.
Drive to Munising for Pictured Rocks. Hike it or rent a pontoon and cruise along it and drop anchor at beaches along the way. 2 or 3 days. Search for Yooperlight stones.
Head back to the lower pennisula. Stop at the big spring for 30 mins, and taquamenon falls. Mackinaw Island could be an overnight stop, but I'd suggest drive through to Glenn Arbor area and spending a day or two at Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Then a long drive home or break it up by staying somewhere on the coast of lake michigan for a night. best sunset in the midwest, imo.

this is about the first year all of six of us will have a week off in march and do an annual florida trip in june so trying to think of something different to do. we have 9 days if we wanted to stretch it
here is a consideration. from CI to Mt Rushmore/Deadwood down to RMNP and then back to CI.
too much driving and/or not enough time over a week?
or another option may be just down to gatlinburg, which we've never done either.
my ultimate goal is to take my kids out to yellowstone some day but that's probably more of summer trip.
i've been to mt rushmore before so i know it's a little underwhelming, but i think i'd like my kids to see/experience it
