I don’t know if Illinois has ever faced a stretch of QB’s/offenses like we are in the first 8 games of this season. Ryan Browne is obviously the weakest link here but he threw for 300 yards against USC and threw for 250 & scored 30 points against Notre Dame. Purdue’s offense is good. But look at this list of what we’ve started with…

Playing these 6 QB’s and offenses in the first 8 games is a level beyond anything that I can recall for any Illinois team. I loved our 2022 defense but they didn’t play a great offense the entire year, the best QB they faced all season was Aidan O’Connell. They mostly feasted on inept Big Ten offenses.
You would hope there are some things schematically that we could be doing better, but for as long as I’ve been an Illini fan we’ve quite literally never been able to hold up against teams with good QB’s and athletic WR’s that get out in space. It’s why we got blown out in every conference road game for almost 20 years. And this year we’re facing an onslaught of teams like that.
Only true fix for this is to start recruiting better, which hopefully we have started to do.
