Having not read the book source material, I watched the two It movies not really understanding that it was some type of alien entity.

Now that I think about it, I guess things will end badly for all the human characters outside the TV, too. But at least we won't be toyed with by a malevolent cosmic entity.
Not directly, at least.
Apparently they're planning two more pre-prequel series, going back to the '30s and the 19-aughts.
