The Deuce: A year after we bought our house, one of our garage springs just came undone and I went to YouTube.

Found a video. Ordered a kit with the bars to "rewind" the spring. Followed the directions and got up on a ladder and put the thing back on. Did it without incident. Garage door is still working fine today.

The amount of people that have told me how amazingly stupid I was since then has been, well, a lot. I guess I hadn't heard it was dangerous. That was just me in my "YouTube can show me how to fix anything" phase, and I wanted to save some money.

Guy told me the cheap option would only last two years, trying to talk me into one that will last 5 years at twice the price.

Took some interrogation, but eventually admitted that the duration is only a difference in warranty, the end result is they install the same springs.
