There was a famous player who went on a run
name Matt Ammodio. He won 38 consecutive games, the third longest streak in history. He had a very specific way of answering questions, where he would say "what's' instead of "what is" and he would almost always answer with a last name only. He popularized this strategy, the logic being that it reduces your chance of error of saying the wrong first name, since it's not required. So yeah, it's very much a thing now. Previous Message Is it a recent meta not to include a first name when the answer is a person? Pretty much every one so far has been surname only.
