Tactically speaking. I think gerrymandering and mid-decade redistricting is messed up in general but unless it's addressed on a national level you have to do everything you can to claw seats for yourself.
But I think they are setting themselves up to get out over their skis and potentially lose some competitive seats. In 2021, in a wave of Critical Race Theory hysteria that immediately subsided the moment Glenn Youngkin took office, they did put Republicans in the Gov., Lt. Gov., and A.G. spots. I think it's possible conservatives stir up something similar in future races. Newly elected Dem. Gov. Abigail Spanberger has made gun reform a key issue on her platform and I can see that being the thing that galvanizes Republicans or they could come up something completely absurd like the previous time around.
Meanwhile Dem. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner are doing everything they can to demotivate their constituents right now with their I support a lot of what Trump is doing but he could he be nicer about it stances on many of the issues. So I wouldn't be surprised if this backfires.
