WELL FOLKS, here we are. The last stretch. Three Q1 games in a row, and then two sleepy games.
Tomorrow evening the beloved land in southern California to take on the Trojans of USC. USC is currently 48 in the NET, making this a quad 1 game for both teams.
USC is sitting at 7-7 in the Big Ten and is projected as a tournament team at this point. Notable wins would be a pair of wins @ Wisconsin (by 2) and home against Indiana (by 6). USC is 2-5 in Quad 1 games with losses @Michigan, @MSU, vsPurdue, @Iowa, and @OSU. They also lost at home to Northwestern.
USC's season took a turn when guard Rodney Rice was injured in December...since then it's been Baker-Mazara, Ausar, and lil Arenas that have been carrying them. They do rebound...they're 5th in the Big Ten and we're 3rd. They are coming off a loss on the road but they will have had a full week of rest to get ready for Wednesday.
Illinois is currently 4th in the NET. 6-4 in Q1 games with 2 of those losses being @MSU and Wisconsin. Boswell is back, which is good. Baker-Mazara is 6'7" (grade school and junior high parents feel free to groan here), so Boswell will have a day in front of him, as will anybody else that has to rotate. This would be a great game to have Dre back, but not sure that's in the cards.
Gotta love the 9pm game. Go you boys from Illinois. Let's sweep the West Coast.
