When Tim Cook announced his departure the other day, some comments were about Apple's being behind in AI (loosely defined). I wondered whether maybe that was a good thing, as the revenue opportunity through iPhones seems modest relative to potential expense.

How many people are like me in my retirement where advanced AI that I'd have to pay for directly does not necessarily bring a lot to the table (yet)?

Yesterday I listened to the Dwarkesh podcast from last year with Jeff Dean of Google fame. He talked about the incredible technology and grand ideas for its potential. Brilliant guy with an exceptional track record. He has hopes for advanced tech such as specialized processors to drive down the cost of "compute." But the expenses will still be massive.
