And I felt weird about it at the time. The other guys we’ve brought in aren’t in the same ballpark as the shit that Wade is trying to pull off.

Seems way over the top. I'm sure the counter-argument is that what we've done (taking Euro pros) is pretty much on the same level (albeit not the same talent level, probably).

He had no players on his roster for much of portal season and he just kept telling the media not to worry because he had a plan.
Well the plan seems to be to just pressure test NCAA and the courts and see if they can use loopholes to field a pro team. They just took a commitment from RJ Luis, the former Big East POY who turned pro despite not getting drafted and played a season in the G League. And is looking to add a 26 year old from Europe that was drafted years ago but never came over and has been playing European pro ball for years.
Really pathetic stuff.

from the NG:
That 20-game slate again includes three teams Illinois will play both at home and on the road — Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin — and seven opponents each for home only or road only matchups.
The Illini will face Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA and USC at State Farm Center only during the 2026-27 season. Also on the schedule are road games at Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Rutgers and Washington.
