because they're members of the cabbage family, it totally depends how you cook them.

they carry a lot of sulfur-containing compounds, so if you boil them, you're rupturing a lot of cell walls and letting those compounds out and getting that awful hydrogen sulfide smell. quick & hot cooking (roasting or frying) bypasses most of that.
