2) the location of the stadium is so choice that everyone loves it so much, that that factor always outweighed the desire for a dedicated stadium.
3) for the longest time, playing in a football stadium was seen as a feature, not a bug, but as you see all of these new stadiums being built that are fantastic (St. Louis, Nashville, Charlotte, Cincy, etc.) it's getting more and more necessary to have a dedicated facility.
4) And this is probably the biggest factor, Seattle is outrageously expensive, and it would be very very challenging to build a stadium that makes financial sense. That being said, you are correct, there is a piece of land south of the baseball park that probably makes the most sense.

but put it in the city, FFS.
you're telling me they couldn't get a few blocks of all of those warehouses down by the other two stadiums?

We're not the hotness that we used to be, either within MLS or as competition in Seattle against other pro sports teams for the consumer dollar. I think that the the reality of playing in an NFL stadium and not in their own dedicated facility is becoming more and more of a liability, and it seems that the ownership group wants to build a dedicated stadium in the suburbs, which the fan base universally hates. The attendance is significantly down this year, with noticable empty seats from season ticket holders who don't show up to games.

when we're good, the place is rocking.
they've done a lot to make the stadium the centerpiece of connecting downtown west to midtown. you've got 2 walkable breweries and a couple good bars right across from the stadium. i'm hoping more goes in in the next few years as they keep building things up over there.
